LUNARIA | An Introduction to Sustainable Floristry
Saturday 24 October 2020

Floristry has come a long way from its earthy roots and today's industry is unfortunately full of imported flowers, single-use plastic and toxic floral foam. It can be difficult for florists and flower arrangers to think outside these established methods and materials, to find information on alternatives and receive encourangement from florists who have experience of working sustainably.

Spend an inspiring day in our flower studio and farm learning our sustainable floristry tecniques and focus on all things eco. This is a topic very close to our hearts and is at the core of our own practice and teaching. If you have a curiosity for and a desire to learn innovative and sustainable approaches of designing and working with flowers, this is the workshop for you.

We will present an introduction on foam free techniques including a number of demonstrations on natural and/or reusable tools and methods to replace foam on both a large and a small scale. We will discuss the benefits of working with local-grown flowers and offer advice on how to source them. Students will then be able to put a sustainable method into practice by learning how to create a beautiful, wild, floral 'trug' arrangement that represents the season without floral foam, using all bio-degradeable and compostable materials.

Spend a day learning about sustainability, play with beautiful garden flowers and foliage grown in Scotland and develop an eco-friendly awareness to flower arranging that can be put into practice immediately. This workshop is suitable for both professional florists and flower enthusiasts, beginners and experienced arrangers alike.

Delicious refreshments will be served to keep the creativity and energy flowing. All refreshments, materials, flowers, and the use of aprons and sundries are included in the price of this workshop.

Our workshops always use our own and other Scottish-grown flowers from May-October and British-grown flowers and dried flowers from November-April. We don't use floral foam in any of our work or teaching.
