This intensive course is packed full of the practical and business skills you require to start and develop your own creative floristry business. We will cover a number of floristry design staples, techniques and core skills as well as sourcing local flowers, planning events, branding, marketing, insurance, and costing. This course covers all aspects of running a sustainable business both from a financial and an environmental perspective. With experience that spans over almost five decades in the floristry industry and 8 years of growing cut flowers for sale and for large-scale events, we ensure that you leave our course equipped with the knowledge you require to build your own business and the confidence to carve out a rewarding and successful career in full time floristry. 
 
The aim of the course is to provide a foundation in floristry skills and techniques to find your own style in creating beautiful designs that you can sell.
 
Monday | Bouquets & Accessories
In the morning, we will focus on the art of the classic handtie in our highly gestural, intricate, garden-inspired version of the traditional twist technique. The secret of a perfect bouquet is mastering the ‘spiral’ or ‘twist’, where each new stem is arranged at an angle against the previous one. The focus of the afternoon is making wearable floral accessories without wires, tape or glue, including how to make these designs in advance of an event and how to keep them hydrated and looking their best out of water. These skills are particularly useful for wedding work, gifts, styling, brand shoots, and retail. 

Tuesday | Setting Up Your Business & Planning Events
Get to grips with setting up your business, including legal structures, insurance, planning a workspace, sourcing flowers, purchasing sundries, flower conditioning, and costing your work. The day will include costing exercises and how to plan an event from enquiry and costing through to design, delivery and clear up.

Wednesday | Tabletop Designs
We will focus on the designing beautiful tablescapes with flowers, table settings, candles, fabrics, and other interesting botanical materials. Learn how to create a compote bowl centrepiece arranged with just a pin frog and beautiful mixed glass vessels to create light, airy and gently arranged floral centrepieces that appear to naturally emerge from the vessel. Work collaboratively as a group to design a tablescape with the arrangements made during the morning session combined with beautiful props we will have laid out for you to choose from. These skills are particularly useful for wedding and event work, shop installations, branding, styling, home decor, and set design.
 
Thursday | Branding and Marketing
We will share our industry experience and insight in developing a strong brand story and visual identity. Learn how to build a brand story that will resonate with your audience and customers, refine your brand's purpose and be flexible to communicate messaging in both digital and physical environments. We will also host a business start up and coaching session offering you the support to choose a name, write a mission statement, and develop your first services and offerings.
 
Friday | Large Scale Installations 
Learn how to create large scale installations without foam with our innovative alternatives and practical solutions to create installations that are more natural and more beautiful with a zero waste approach. Learn how to make two collaborative designs, a suspended arrangement and an archway in our highly gestural, intricate, garden-inspired style. Learn how to choose foliage and flowers suitable for each design, how to hydrate flowers without foam, which hidden vessels to use, where to source armatures and materials, and how to build installations easily, sustainably and efficiently on site as well as organising logistics and transport. These skills are particularly useful for wedding and event work, shop installations, branding, styling, home decor, and set design. 
 
Guidance will be given on the construction of each floristry design with plenty of opportunity to ask plenty of questions. We understand that embarking on a new career is exciting but daunting prospect. Whether you are just starting out or have been working in floristry for a while or are leaving an established career in another field, this course will not only lead you on a new adventure but also increase your confidence to get the most out of your journey and make a success of your floristry business first time.
 
Our flower school near Glasgow delivers a programme of sustainable floristry classes and courses that celebrate seasonal flowers, combining the art of garden-style flower arranging with practical tuition on sustainable, foam-free mechanics. We provide support and inspiration in developing your own floral style and encourage you to develop confidence and flair by building your experience. By allowing yourself to be attuned to nature and its imperfections, your arrangements will in turn be more authentic and more beautiful. Each student will have an exciting and varied selection of our seasonal, farm-grown flowers and foliage to work with. Our workshops always use our own farm-grown flowers without exception, an abundance of fresh flowers and foliages from March to November and smaller quantities of fresh flowers in November to March and an abundance of dried flowers and evergreens during these winter months. We never use imported flowers, floral foam, or plastic in any of our work or teaching.
 
Lunch and refreshments are provided each day. All refreshments, materials, flowers, and the use of tools and sundries are included in the price of this workshop. Class starts at 10am and finishes at 3pm each day Monday-Friday.
