An introduction to our flower school for aspiring and experienced florists, flower arrangers, and serious flower enthusiasts
Join Lauren & Louisina in their flower school, nestled within a working flower farm and garden in South Lanarkshire, for a day immersed in the magical world of seasonal, naturalistic, and sustainable floristry.
The Flower School Introduction Day is an opportunity to meet Lauren and Louisina, experience our teaching style, and discover the philosophy, techniques, and creative approach behind our flower school. You will see us create a series of live floristry demonstrations, learn more about our sustainable approach to floristry, explore our workshops, courses, and the Seasonal Pursuits membership, and have the opportunity to ask questions about how you might continue your learning with us.
This is a live introduction to our flower school
The event is intended for people who are interested in developing their knowledge and skills in floral design and in joining our programme of workshops, courses, or online learning. You may be an aspiring florist, an established florist looking to develop your practice, a flower grower, gardener, or a serious flower enthusiast who wants to learn more about naturalistic floral design. You don't need to have professional experience, beginners are very welcome, and the day is designed for those who want to spend time learning about our approach and exploring where their floristry education might take them next.
Explore the garden
Our flower school is rooted in the working flower farm and garden that surrounds the studio. During the event, you will have an opportunity to explore the garden and see the seasonal flowers and growing practices that inform our floristry and teaching. We grow all of the flowers we use in own work and teaching here on the farm, and the garden is an important part of understanding our approach to seasonal floristry. You will be able to see the plants and materials in their growing environment and discover how the seasons, the landscape, and what is available to us influences the way we design.
A day inside the Days of Dahlia flower school
We will begin with an introduction to our teaching philosophy, our approach to seasonal and sustainable floristry, and the story behind Days of Dahlia. Lauren and Louisina will then demonstrate three different aspects of their approach to floral design.
Demonstration 1: The Garden-Style Hand-Tied Bouquet
Discover our signature approach to the naturalistic, garden-style bouquet. We will explore the principles of the hand-tied bouquet and demonstrate our signature "twist" technique, looking at movement, shape, proportion, and the natural character of seasonal flowers.
Demonstration 2: Floral Accessories Without Plastic
Explore how to create a beautiful wearable floral accessory without relying on wire, tape, glue or plastic. We will share our approach to working with natural materials and demonstrate how thoughtful mechanics can create delicate but secure floral pieces.
Demonstration 3: The Gestural Garden Bowl
Experience how we create a loose, expressive garden-style arrangement using sustainable, foam-free mechanics. We will explore the relationship between flowers, vessel, and space, and demonstrate how to create movement and structure while allowing each stem to retain its natural character.
Throughout the demonstrations, we will discuss the decisions behind the designs and share an insight into the techniques we teach throughout our wider programme. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and find out more about developing your own floral practice through our flower school.

The Introduction Day is also an opportunity to explore the wider world of Days of Dahlia. We will introduce you to our programme of practical workshops, specialist courses, 1-2-1 masterclasses, and Seasonal Pursuits (our online learning library) for those who want to continue exploring seasonal and sustainable floristry from home. You will be able to ask questions about individual courses and find the right starting point for your own learning. Whether you're looking to take your first steps into floristry or you are already developing a professional practice, we are here to help you find the right path.
Our approach to floristry
At Days of Dahlia, we believe that beautiful floristry begins with a close relationship with flowers, seasons and place. Our work is rooted in the naturalistic beauty of the garden and the flowers we grow ourselves here on the farm. We don't use imported flowers, floral foam, or single-use plastic in our floristry or teaching. Instead, we work with seasonal, locally grown flowers, and explore reusable and considered mechanics that allow flowers to retain their natural movement and character. Our teaching is about more than learning how to reproduce an arrangement; we want to help you develop your eye, to understand why a design works, to become more confident in your choices, and gradually develop your own floral language.
